The New Bern Yacht Club recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. In 1993, seven families, all new to the New Bern Area, established a club to foster their common interests of a passion for boating, a love of the City of New Bern and a shared camaraderie. At first, they met in their homes and later in what is now the Double Tree Hotel. Within a year, the seven founding member families were joined by twenty additional charter family members. In 2001 the members bought a 1930s vintage house on Brices Creek and all pitched in to clear the property and rebuild the structure. In 2006 docks were constructed and in 2008 an addition to the building was added more than doubling the size of the clubhouse
Pictured are two of the original Charter Members, Nada Behr and Bob Mangan, both of whom are still active in the Club. The cornerstone of the Club has been the dedication and support of its members. These traditions continue today with members working together to preserve the landscape and enhance the property, and to volunteer at civic events like Neuse River Days and Operation Clean Sweep. The NBYC is a member managed boating club that offers adventures for small, large, power, sail and paddle vessels, offering marine related on-the-water, educational, community and other social activities. Pictured here is a banner that was made and placed in front of the club house to help commemorate the event. The banner features a special 25th anniversary logo and the club's tag line.
